Information Request
Three members of the Highland Railway Society are researching a book to commemorate, in 2010, the 50th anniversary of the closure of 24 stations north of Inverness from June 1960. These were Bunchrew, Lentran, Clunes, Beauly, Muir of Ord, Conon, Foulis, Evanton, Alness, Delny, Kildary, Nigg, Edderton, Rogart, The Mound, Loth, Halkirk, Bower, Watten and Bilbster together with Cambusavie, Skelbo, Embo and Dornoch. Some of these have subsequently reopened.
The three: Keith Fenwick, Neil Sinclair and Richard Ardern are keen to portray the kinds of goods and passenger services each station provided for its own community and how the volumes of traffic declined due to road competition from lorries and buses throughout the Fifties and before. Any information or recollections readers may have would be warmly welcomed. Please send to Richard at 26A Southside Road, Inverness IV2 3BG (tel/fax 01463 236841) or use the e-mail link on the left menu to forward information through FoFNL
