Shunting Competition
Imagine my delight when within days of members receiving the previous newsletter I received a solution; the first of many I hoped. Alas, it was not to be; it was the only submission. What intrigued me was that the solution had been achieved in only 10 moves; where had I gone wrong? But, it wasn't me that was at fault, the reader had not put the locos back into their original positions. I now suspect that that condition was only stipulated to make the puzzle more demanding. Embodied in our member's solution was the use of a fly-shunt cable which meant nothing to me until I studied the diagrams. At the end of his submission he posed the question "Did mainline locos ever carry and use a fly-shunt cable?"
