A Most Convivial Evening
Those who came along to hear Syd Atkinson, former Inverness Area manager, at Crown Church on 4th march were lucky indeed. To have a long-serving railwayman give us a glimpse of his broad range of experience over the years of a varied and remarkable career, and to do it so informally and with evident relish, was a privilege. We are most grateful for his kindness in meeting us and giving us such a memorable and thoroughly enjoyable evening.
He reminded us of what the railway is all about - certainly as it used to be in its busier days - and the sturdy capable men who ensured its operation even under sometimes very taxing circumstances. One could almost hear and smell and savour the settings he described. And what traffic these lines carried!
Very many thanks. Some of us could most happily have gone on listening for hours, and we very much hope he might be prepared to address us again one of these days.
