Scotland RUS Generation 2 Scoping Exercise
Your committee was represented at the Scoping Meeting with Passenger Focus held in Perth, by Richard Ardern. Delegates were invited by Nigel Wunsch, Principal Route Planner, Network Rail Scotland to submit their views.
Following discussions amongst committee members we submitted a paper of our ideas for his consideration supported by our papers "Strengthening the Far North Line" and Towards a great North of Scotland Railway." The submission was introduced with the following: "The RUS planning seems to fit in to two categories a) between now and end of CP5 and b) the medium and longer periods up to the 30 year horizon in 2039. We will consider these in turn." The body of the paper was too similar to the previous papers for it to warrant being repeated here.
We have received the following acknowledgement:
"Richard,
Thank you for your comments and input which we will consider as part of our RUS development, although a key requirement of the RUS process remains the need to "take account of funding available or likely to be available" which remains a challenge, particularly in rural areas. It was good to have the opportunity to open discussions with a number of groups when we were in Perth and we shall keep you in touch with the RUS as it progresses.
Nigel Wunsch, Principal Route Planner, Network Rail"
