Vacancy
The editor has intimated to the committee that he is not seeking re-election as a committee member and Newsletter Editor at the 2011 AGM.
We would like to hear from any one willing to take on this position and a brief description of the current method of production follows.
As a committee member you share the flow of information and discussion passing between committee members via emails so as to gain a feel for what topics might be relevant for future issues.
You will be the recipient and holder of relevant photos of the Line so as to have a library of material to draw on.
There are three issues published, January, May and September and it is the duty of the Editor to establish the deadline for submissions. Each issue will be posted with enclosures according to the time of the year e.g. AGM notice, AGM minutes, year- end accounts, membership reminders etc. Currently the Editor is responsible for producing the extra sheets and for filling and sending the newsletters. Labels are provided by the Membership Secretary with clear indications, when necessary, for special insertions.
We distribute 250 copies of the newsletter which the present Editor prints in-house but the next Editor would be able to negotiate with the committee for the publishing to be carried out externally.
The compilation and editing takes place from the day of issue of the previous issue with articles being added as and when they occur with discussions at committee meetings and by emails as to the likely content.
It has been a satisfying job for the past 12 years and the range of articles etc. that I have received is testament to the enthusiasm of our members to ensure that the newsletter is eagerly anticipated, especially by the major players in the railway industry with whom we have very strong links.
