In For A Shilling, In For A Pound?

Many of our discerning readers will have noticed that there is a substantial error in Richard Arden's "Brad-Sure?" article on page 17 of Far North Express No 53. Sleeper berths in the early 1960s were priced in shillings, not pounds! So in the penultimate paragraph, "£40, £22.50 or £14" should be replaced by "40 shillings, 22 shillings and sixpence, or 14 shillings" or, in the notation of the time, "40/-, 22/6 or 14/-". It would be another decade before these prices would be written as £2.00, £1.12½ and 70p, respectively.
