Grub Steak??
Committee member Richard Ardern met with the Scottish Catering Manager for East Coast on 11th December to discuss the drastic lack of hot food on the Edinburgh to Inverness northbound journey of the Highland Chieftain. The outcome is that the First Class offer of "Afternoon Tea" (which is principally cold sandwiches) will be replaced by the "All Day Menu" as far as Pitlochry. There will also be a wider range of hot snacks available for all passengers to purchase and a coeliac-friendly (gluten-free) dish too. We had asked for some more substantial hot food, given that there is a chef on board, but this has been turned down. The days of the legendary Highland Chieftain High Tea are not to return, at least not under the current franchise.
